INTRODUCING

THE ORIGINAL SHORELINE

LET’S TAKE A WALK THROUGH CAPE TOWN’S HISTORY

After a long period of research, discovery and preparation, we are delighted to announce the addition of a new heritage route in Cape Town.

Join us for a walk through Cape Town’s history, from the lives of the earliest Goringhaicona people to the bustling commercial city it is today. We’ve uncovered a new route that traces the city’s original shoreline from the Castle of Good Hope to the V&A Waterfront. Along the way, we’ve found stories about the people, places and events that have shaped our history and will influence our future.

From the Castle, the route passes distinct landmarks where historical events happened and historical figures made their mark.

The route comes alive through a VoiceMap, which directs you and tells some of the stories we’ve unearthed.

We invite you to experience this new route. Your journey through history starts at the Castle whenever you can. Find out more about the project here.

We’re excited to reveal this new project to you our friends, supporters and partners. Please do give us feedback once you’ve done the walk. We’d love to hear your views. And, of course, if you have any stories to add, we’d love to hear from you.
