EXPERIENCE
SOUTH AFRICA’S BOTANICAL HERITAGE
CAPE TOWN FYNBOS TASTING
IN THE HISTORIC COMPANY’S GARDEN
THIS ‘TASTE OF BOTANICAL HERITAGE’ IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE CAPE’S
PROTECTED INDIGENOUS BOTANICALS IN CAPE TOWN’S HISTORIC COMPANY’S GARDEN.
Hosted by The Cape Town Heritage Trust in the tranquil Visitors Centre, this laboratory-style Fynbos
experience is a must as an introduction to Cape Town.
Fynbos is ancient, indigenous vegetation endemic to the tip of the African continent in an area known
as the Cape Floristic Region. This is the smallest, yet most diverse of six globally recognised botanical
kingdoms and well-known Fynbos species include the health boosting Rooibos and Honeybush teas.
Lesser known species include the fascinating Rhino bush, Cancer bush, Buchu and Snow bush,
which make unique culinary and wellness additions to a contemporary lifestyle.
In the one-hour Fynbos Tasting these extraordinary flavours are explored in the form of tea infusions,
cordials, oils, vinegar tinctures, edible naturals, salts and digestives.
The three-hour Apothecary Workshop is an extension of the Fynbos Tasting and Fynbos essential oils
are used to make beard oil, natural perfume, face spritzers, room fresheners, salt scrubs and soaks.
The blending of oral tradition and scientific research lends itself to a beautifully layered presentation
filled with delightful surprises.
One is left leaving feeling informed, relaxed and infinitely connected to the rhythms of nature.
Take the experience home with edible Fynbos bouquets from the FYNBOS FLORIST and all-natural
Fynbos salts, dried Fynbos herbs, tea infusions and more from the HERITAGE SHOP.
